The Chowra Lighthouse is a 24-meter GI trestle tower established on 1991. This Lighthouse station is also equipped with RECON, Code B “and servers mainly the fisherman marine fraternity and interisland vessels for ensuring safe navigation in Indian waters. The Chowra island belongs to the township of Nancowry of Teressa Taluk Chowra Island is about 65 km South-East of Car Nicobar Island. The island is almost flat except for southern end rising vertically in a rocky pinnacle to an elevation of 105 m bearing an appearance of a flap hat. As such the island was named „SAMBRERO‟ by the early Portuguese Navigators. Chowra Island was the capital of Nicobar Islands in the ancient times. The islanders of Chowra are expert in clay pottery and Canoe building. The Chowra lighthouse can be approached via Sea from Port Blair through Departmental vessel or any chartered vessel upto anchorage Point and from anchorage point by dinghy upto shore.
