KAVARATTI LIGHTHOUSE
Kavaratti Lighthouse is one of the major Lighthouses commissioned in Lakshadweep group of islands. Due to a gradual increase in sea traffic a DA gas light on a wooden trestle was commissioned on 20th May 1976. In the year 1984-85 construction of present 38 meter high RCC tower was taken up and completed in 1988. The DA equipment was replaced and PRB-42 equipment inside a lantern house was commissioned on 28th October 1988. Subsequently performance of the light was improved by replacing the the PRB -42 replaced with cluster of Metal halide lamps as an illuminant. The improved light was put into service on 14.02.2002.
